"Feininger's
Woods #3"
This is the third version I've
painted of this scene, inspired by
Lyonel Feininger's painting "Harbor Mole," which is a
kind of cubist seascape. This painting is about a house in the
woods. Geometric forms and shard shapes divide the landscape.
Lively brushwork is interspersed with flat fields of color.
Edges of shapes form lines leading to a sense of distance, while the
shapes themselves bring us back to the surface. The lighting
within each shape individually imparts a sense of illumination when observed
collectively. |
