This painting was made in the spring.  The original intention was to make a simple objects-on-fields painting with a divided and variegated background.  As it evolved it developed an upward motion, giving it's square frame an illusion of being taller than wider.  It seemed as if the painting was reflecting the season of rebirth during which it was made, when plants and animals rise up out of winter's sleep.
