The Image..."Mallard" is an oil I finished in 06.  It's inspired by cubism and hard edge abstraction.  I like to combine the two, especially when representing an animal, person, still life, landscape or seascape.  I make a drawing first, but it is really a frame or armature  for the different fields of color.  Within each section, I like to make lovely gradations of color.  I mostly keep the hard edges of the drawing, but sometimes they have to be overrun.  The aim is to finish with a harmonious, unified whole with lots of interesting passages within.
