I've been very busy with commissions for the last nine months or so, so my new originals that were in progress had to sit on the shelf. I love to paint commissions for people. It's very soothing for me to have been paid for a work of art before it's even started. So I just stay in my home studio with music or TV or audiobooks and paint away. It's lovely, cozy, happy. But the call of new creations that want to come to life is always right beneath the surface, waiting to explode forth with fresh new energy.
This piece is called "Harmonic Vibrations" because I love to think about the vibrational nature of the universe...how all matter is energy vibrating at different frequencies. We all know how it feels when our world is vibrating in a harmonic way, and we know how it feels when our world is vibrating in a discordant way.
Harmony always feels wonderful, but life has a way of taking the discordant times, like those 9th and 11th chords that vibrate on the outer edges of harmony and sometimes just spill over into chaos, and uses those experiences to allow us to forge a future that benefits from the powerful asking for improvement that happens during times of discord.
So it's all good.....but I still prefer harmony.
Here it is the middle of June already! I've decided to use my blog here on my Weebly website, rather than use my old Blogger blog...I never enjoyed using that program but am very comfortable here. Weebly gives us a very nice blogging platform so I will be making good use of it.
Here is one of my new paintings "Flair for the Dramatic". I wanted to make some smaller paintings for customers who don't have the funds to buy the big ones. This has the feeling of largeness, even though it is small. The sweep of white with dark blues and greens sort of falling out beneath it like dark, rich and complex rain, or some kind of deep mossy forest substance. I really like what is going on in that green and blue area on the bottom, I'll add some closeups. I'll photograph it well so that I'll be able to make large giclees. Here is my page to purchase, or you can go to Etsy. I'm putting a few extra coats of varnish on it just because it is so wonderful.
On a personal note, I've been having an absolutely fantastic year.
I listen to music all the time, it's especially sweet because I spend so much time alone in the studio. One of my great discoveries this year for me has been Rod Stewart's sublime renditions of American popular standards "The Great American Songbook". Like him, I am "fairly addicted" to these songs...to say the least! I'm late to this party, just discovering it this year, and I just can't get enough. The sweetness, the sublime feeling I get from this music makes me think of all of the songwriters and musicians of my parents and grandparents generations who created the original songs, and who are no longer physically present. I can feel their participation in the music from the non-physical perspective, and feel them enjoying these new versions and I believe they thoroughly enjoyed Rod's creations, and the outpouring of good feelings that we listeners can continue to revel in.....
